Robberies

Posted in: Cooper

I would like to start a discussion on neighborhood watch and the recent rash of break ins that have occured in our neighborhood where people's doors are getting kicked in and they are getting robbed often in broad daylight.

We are all concerned with the violence we are seeing in our city.

At each of our neighborhood meetings we have had the Major, or his representative from the Mingo Valley Division of TPD, speak to our group and offer suggestions on what we can do to make a difference  ...  things like being aware of what is happening on the street where we live  ...  if we see things that don't look right, calling the police  ...  everyone working together to put an end to this violence.

This morning I saw a car in my neighbor's driveway up the street (she doesn't have a car)  ...  I called her and found she didn't know it was there, however, by that time it had left.

We also have had  representatives from the Alert Neighbors program speak at our meetings.  They have people who will come out to a neighborhood and help you set up such a program.  (Respond back if you would like help setting up a program.)

We all want the security of knowing that we (our families and our property) are safe.  We must all take an active role to make this happen.

Another idea that a friend of mine had was to exchange phone numbers with all of your immediate neighbors, if possible, in case of emergency.  We currently do that with all of the houses surrounding us and it's a good little network!  It turns out that there are a lot of people that are home almost all of the time and keep a very good eye on things!   Unfortunately, criminals make it a full time job to keep a better eye on things sometimes.

When is the next meeting?
