Queens Blvd Safety & Maintenance

We are a watchdog group that monitors the city's handling of safety and maintenance issues concerning Queens Blvd. After several years of analysis it occurred to us that our city government and its agencies were not addressing the myriad day-to-day problems that exist on Queens Blvd.
Unfortunately whenever a problem crops up it must first be brought to the city's attention by the public before any kind of corrective action is taken.
With nearly 100,000 vehicles traversing Queens Blvd's 7.5 miles daily, we believe the city has been irresponsible for far too long. Among the city agencies responsible for maintaining Queens Blvd are: Dept of Transportation, Dept of Sanitation, Dept of Parks, and Dept of Environmental Protection.
Currently there is no coordinating unit that
tracks all of these agencies to ensure this major thoroughfare is kept in working order. When you add in the numerous outside contractors doing work on Queens Blvd, things get dicey.
Among our major concerns are: street light maintenance, properly marked and maintained crosswalks, proper vehicular and pedestrian signage, potholes, tree maintenance, illegal trash dumping on medians and roadways, safety fencing maintenance, sewer maintenance, and flooding.

Queens Blvd is the life-line
of Queens (and Manhattan)--it is our hope that our city leaders realize this and act accordingly.
