Greetings to Rhode Island Bicycle and Trail Organizations and Enthusiasts:
The Greenways Alliance of Rhode Island (GARI) is pleased to announce that the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen (NBW) granted funds to GARI to provide support for bicycle and greenway projects in our area for the second year. The 2008 GARI/NBW grant program will direct funds to local bicycle and greenway organizations in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts.
In 2007 we granted a total of $4000 to support the following projects
East Bay Bike Path Water Table Project, to provide free water along the East Bay Bike Path;
Tiverton Trail Blazers, to encourage completion of the proposed Tiverton Bike Path;
Bicycle Commuter?’s map of the Red Bridge detour in Providence;
William O?’Neill Bike Path map reprint;
Providence Bicycle Network website;
Rolling Agenda: Bike to School events & Bicycle School bus; and
Recycle a Bike program, to purchase bicycle repair tools.
The following outlines the requirements of the GARI/NBW grant program.
Goal:
The Greenways Alliance/Narragansett Bay Wheelmen (GARI/NBW) grant project is meant to encourage bicycle and trail use in Rhode Island.

Grant fund uses:
Events to introduce new users and encourage increased bicycle and trail use
Trail clean up event expenses
Materials to support bicycle use or trail creation
Bicycle and trail maps
Publication of books or reports, lobbying or partisan political activities, studies, acquisition of land and/or buildings will not be funded.
Proposals should:
Identify a project or need and a clear plan and timeline for translating that need into action;
Explain the long-range impacts of your work; and
Increase community involvement and commitment to greenway and bicycle use.
Eligible Organizations:
Incorporated organizations (with or without established 501(c) (3) status), and unincorporated ad hoc groups in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts may apply. Individuals are not eligible to apply. Loans will not be made.
Application Information
Awards up to $1000 will be granted. Receipts for expenses will be reimbursed up to $1000 to grantees. Projects that have matching funds will receive additional consideration. GARI reserves the right to accept or reject proposals based on their merit. Awards may be granted to provide partial support for larger projects.
Applications must be received no later than February 29 for a decision in early March that will give you time to plan and facilitate spring and summer projects and programs. Submit proposals via email to (sueb4@cox.net). Clearly describe the activities and goals of the project in 3 pages or less.

Attach a list of the key members who will accomplish the project, name and contact information for the person(s) who will have responsibilities for (1.) communicating with us, (2.) handling the finances, and (3.) coordinating the project. You may also send background information that would help GARI better understand your request.
Proposals will be reviewed and final decisions made by the GARI Grant Committee. Applicant organizations will be advised of decisions and next steps as soon as possible after that meeting. Grantees will be asked to sign and return a letter of agreement.
We require that you make reference to GARI and NBW support on all printed materials and publicity. Upon completion of the funded project a report (with copies of all publications) describing the activity is requested to help us evaluate the success of the program.
If you have any questions please call or email me at 423-2623, sueb4@cox.net.
Good Luck,
Sue Barker

Who else wants to join the app?

We can use some ideas and some people from different groups to make this a winning application for Pawtucket?
Let's gather some other clubs

We can make this a winner out of the difficult bridge situation.
