Northland Community 161 Cleanup Day

The next Northland community cleanup day on state Route 161 is set for Saturday, Nov. 7.

These volunteer efforts to spruce up the main community corridor are conducted every six weeks from the spring through fall. They are presented by the Northland Community Council's landscaping and beautification committee with support from Keep Columbus Beautiful, the Northland Area Business Association and the association's SR-161 task force.

As usual, the Nov. 7 event will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Sharon Woods Center behind Jiffy Lube at 1800 E. Dublin Granville Road.

Keep Columbus Beautiful -- a program of the city's Public Service Department, Refuse Collection Division -- provides bags, gloves, safety vests and pickup tools. Participants are advised to wear brightly colored clothing to enhance their visibility as well as sturdy, waterproof footwear.

Businesses along state Route 161 are invited to join in the regular litter removal project as partners.

For more information, contact task force chairman Dave Cooper at 888-2201, or e-mail cleanupday.myncc.org.

This will be the final one of the year, Cooper said, adding it was purposely scheduled to take place after Election Day to collect campaign signs that might remain in the public right of way.
