An Evaluation

I agree that there is a disparity between the schools. However, let us remember that it is not this board which built the complex at North. Nor is it the same Superintendent.

This Board is trying to overcome the same problems the current Council at Pickerington is trying to resolve.

There is not money for the present Board to do what they might want to do. Education is the main reason for the schools. If the money is needed for more pressing matters, I give the Board a great deal of credit for not yielding to pressure to spend it for athletic facilities.
Still not equal

Granted the current school board with the exception of Gail Oakes and Lori Sanders were not on the board when the new North High School was voted on and built.

However no matter how you slice this pie in the PLSD you always find a BIAS in favor of the North area's students.

Please go back and read Mr. Brown's comments. What was the best asset left behind at the Central High School????

That is right!! the band director. Yet when those students at Central and their family's had the honor to travel to the Rose Bowl the green eyed monster of envy of those North PARENTS AND ATHLETIC BOOSTERS could not stand it. They had to horn in. Folks this not about money but a pattern of DISCRIMINATION and none of the fools on the school board can see past their bigoted noses.

When those athletic boosters persuaded the school to build at sport complex that rivals many small colleges they did it for ONLY their children living in the NORTH district. They accepted some token students from the poorer areas to keep form being sued by the NAACP. Sadly I heard some comments and the use of the ''N'' word in response to not wanting their children to go to school with this riff raft.

That BIAS is transmitted every day right through to the board and who supports them.

In addition there have been times that the two schools could have shared the facilities that ALL PARENTS and TAXPAYERS are paying for in the district. Most of the time those requests have been denied by the coaches and athletic departments up North.

Clearly the NORTH Parents got their gift of their sacred GIRLS Basketball coach. Yet did we see this ''HOLIDAY CLASSIC'' being a shared event?

Has it ever dawn on any of the idiots that have for years pushed the Pickerington sports programs that maybe others in the district might view sports in a little different light and maybe with a little less enthusiasm? The former Chair of the Panther athletic booster club stated on this web site he was concerned about a low turn out in the number of kids going out for the Ridgeview Junior High football team. What business is that of his?

Mr. Brown is very right, let's separate these schools and their programs and let the parents and the talent at each school determine the respective school's future. One way to start that is by having our school board report the number of students at each school and then tell us how much they spend per child in operating funds.

Then separate the booster clubs and allow them to raise their own monies to build their own programs. What we now have a group of zealots running the show from northern Violet Township wanting to isolate and control and to reserve the goodies for the North. Clearly the school has fallen into to this effort of keeping their data secret which must end before I ever support their levies again. Sorry that is the only leverage we have down south now.

By Still voting NO!!!

Not always as it seems

I understand that neither the Central nor North Band, on their own, would have qualified to participate in the Rose Bowl due to minimum size requirements. Only by combining the two bands was it possible for Pickerington to be represented. I don't believe this was a case of North honing in on Central. Nor do I think it's a show of unity. It's a solution to allow Pickerington to participate in the parade.

As for sharing athletic facilities between the two high schools, it was my understanding that Central's track team was using the facilities at North.

As North was being built, at least one resident of the district had suggested that the new school forgo a field house and the money be spent instead on a natatorium. Then, the two schools could have shared these resources (i.e., field house and natatorium). Maybe this concept would have created more unity.

While there are some obvious differences between Central and North (if you start counting number of track lanes, tennis courts, etc.), North doesn't always come out on top. The technology added to Central is superior to what was installed at North as Central's was installed more recently and the board opted not to use what North had just to be equal. Instead, they made a decision to install the best currently available. Central's proximity to the Library is another plus that North can't match. I've heard the performing arts center at Central is superior to the one at North. If you look close enough, there are other examples.
