7/8 of a Track @ Central

Posted in: PATA
Last Time I Looked...

...school facilities are to meet the needs of students, not to attract major events.

... the Junior High did not have an athletic complex. At least it wasn't mentioned in the $500,000 contract to replace a perfectly good set of stands and press box.

... seven lanes will work just fine as the track events I've attended at North (and other schools)generally do not use all lanes in any one heat.

... it's hard enough to vote funds to meet expansion needs, much less parity projects. The hard work will be keeping the board from slipping through other projects like the current stands replacement. $500,000 here, $500,000 there and pretty soon you're talking real money.

How far should this extend?

Just a quick observation- The Pick Central parking lot is short 22 parking spaces versus Pick North. Should we rebuild the parking lot as well?

How old should it be?

The football stadium is ~25 years old. There are other schools that have replaced stadiums recently - last 10 years - Groveport and Thomas Worthington are a couple of examples. I called & asked Thomas Worthington how old their stadium was when it was replaced & they thought it was 26 years old - they said they had wanted to replace it for years. I then called the DO and asked the life expectancy of the new stadium - it's 50 years and is 15% of the cost of building a new one at Central w/ track & field, etc. Personally, I don't think that's worth getting that last lane.

share to be fair again

we could all hold on to our wallets if they just shared the North facilites and stop throwing money at these athletic facilites when we have bigger needs academically.
