I've Got to Agree

I am afraid to say it, Picktown03, but I have to agree. The stadium project seems to me like a needless expenditure of $500,000 that we can ill afford.

Math and Science??

I saw on TV yesterday a report from some group that had surveyed the 41 industrialized nations in the world ranking their High School test scores in Science and Math. The USA was ranked 28th out of these 41 other nations. In addition we regularly see here in our own state and within our school district that our students lag behind in these two fields.

Yet we have a school board member talking about school sprit and here again those memories of TIGER STADIUM.

I am sorry if we have $500,000 to spend on capital improvements on Central then maybe we should invest in some teaching aides that might help bring our math and science test scores up. I have never heard from any student or board member the reason we fall behind every year with math and science. I have heard many times though about school memories and school sprit neither of which will employee our young people in the future.

Districts Money

The money for the stadium, if I read the papers right, comes from Capital Improvement funds which cannot be used for Operating Funds (teaching aids for math and science). There were interior improvements made at Central last year that did improve the quality of the education - not sure how many people on this site have been inside, but at the open house this fall we saw the 19'' black & white tv's were replaced with projectors that could be used on a 50'' screen in the front of the class - a much better enviroment than they were in previously & all class rooms benefit - so math, science, english, history, etc.

The inside of the building got fixed first, now the stadium is being addressed. Worthington replaced a stadium a few years ago - I don't think they last forever. Does anyone know how old the Central Stadium was?
