Build Them And They Will Come

Split Sessions

You guys make an argument about split sessions like you are comparing apples to apples. Yes, Pickerington has had split sessions and yes when you talk to people - some liked it & some didn't. This was at the high school level. We have never had split sessions at the elementary level.

It will be a very different scenario for small children. Example, kids learn for short periods of time then lose their focus. That is the biggest reason for 1/2 day kindergarten - the kids really don't benefit greatly in the last half of their day; unless you think added day care is a benefit. 1st graders have the last lunch scheduled in elementary schools - why? Because their focus is gone after lunch. Now take that same group of kids & have them be at school at 6:30 am - will they last until noon - probably. Bedtimes will be harder because they still need 10-12 hours of sleep but have to get up much earlier. Now take the same kids & put them in second session - noon - 6:30ish. They've already been up half the day - I'll bet they will perform & learn at a significantly lower rate than the morning group.

Would we be out of trailers - probably. Would it be an equal education for the kids - not by a long shot.

Maybe we should put all the high school kids at North on split sessions - then no one can bi*#h about sports facilities. We could put 5th & 6th grades all at Central & use Harmon & Diley for elementary schools.

I'm tired of listening to people make the smallest kids in the community pawns in a fight they can't win. If you want to slow down development get active or proactive. Is a No vote on a school levy really the best you can do?

By Not so sure....
Dear Not So Sure,

Dear Not So Sure,

Okay, I'm game.

Your plan sounds like a winner to me.

Combine the two high schools into one and split session them while using the other building as a Junior High. And so on down the line.......

Thinking like yours is what is needed to make this work without driving the entire community into the poor house.

If you haven't figured it out yet, voting on school levies and bond issues are about the only voice that the taxpayer has.

As far as making the samllest kids pawns, your suggestion helps eliminate that problem.

We truly need to be reaistic about what we can and can't afford. Remember, once we build the schools then we are going to have to have an operating levy to boot.

As fast as we can build them is as fast as the developers will fill them. Take a ride out Diley road a get a grip on what is happening out there.

As I said before, if you aren't a developer or a large land holder in this area, a vote for this bond issue is a vote against your own best interests.
