Today the Columbus Dispatch published a practice test for Ohio?’s High School Sophomores to take before they are allowed to graduate from High School. I was enlightened at the questions and the material covered in this test. What are we doing to our young people?
The READING section of this practice test covered three articles. And those were; the self esteem story about the turtle, Malcolm ?“X?” and the persecution by the government, then one about the forest and Yellowstone National Park. The multiple choose answers were just as revealing as the questions. The bias in this test jumps out at the reader no matter where you stand on these issues. I can?’t believe our State government is allowing a High School test to be used as a political tool that could have been written by the Democratic National Committee and their liberal coalitions.
The SOCIAL STUDIES questions were outrageous. Now here is a passage, ?“During the times of war or perceived dangers.?” Hello!!! What is perceived dangers? In other words don?’t ever trust what your government says.
Then there is the MATH section. Clearly in their seventh month of the tenth grade we are expecting them to know algebra, geometry and statistics. These are subjects that should be taught in the last two years of High School. I am disappointed that we have tried to push our children to a level higher in 10 years of school that should have been completed in 12 years of school.
Following closely behind the MATH section was the SCIENCE section. Much of the material in the science section should have been covered in the 11th and 12th grade levels. If we are expecting our children to have mastered these subjects and concepts mid way through the tenth grade then what do we expect of them in the last two years of High School? I think Chemistry, Biology and Botany are more advanced subjects that should be given to college bound seniors.
How does this relate to the ?“C?” student in preparing him or her for life? Can they balance their check book? Can they read and follow instructions in their job what ever that may be? Can these sophomores that pass this test balance a check book? Do they respect authority? As an adult I see everyday in my work place people following instructions and they are being trained to follow the direction from the supervision and they do quite well.
I think for the state to be forcing our students to study and spend their time on a liberal political agenda is a waste of the tax payers money.
The idea here is not to create a political base for the Democratic Party but to teach our children how to survive in the world they face. Reading passages from Malcolm X will not inspire or help that cause.
I have been wondering for years where all of the Viet Nam hippies went. I think I have found them and they are writing tests for our Ohio Kids to prevent them from graduating High School unless they adhere to the far left in this country. If this test is the learning expectations of our Ohio Kids in grades K-10 then we are all in trouble folks.
