On 2-25-05 I suggested the following. Any PLSD Board members, or reporters for that matter, do their homework and get the costs before we got so ''uppity'' and contracted this service out?
If you haven't, I have
So why haven't you?
The numbers would stagger any reasonable person and that may be why levy's and bonds fail. Reasonable people remember facts.

I suggest the members of the PLSD Board of Education go into these bid considerations with an actual cost per ridership PRIOR to us having contracted out this service.
This SHOULD give you a REAL BASELINE for evaluation... anything else is an elevated figure of the failure of previous Boards.

Publish your findings
Why not contact a paper or school board official and publish your findings?
Does the school district have the expertise to do this in house? Are there insurance implications - wouldn't they need additional operating $'s to make this happen or a bond issue to build their own facility? Figures on what did occur would be over 10 years old if what I've seen in the paper is correct, has Laidlaw been the provider for the last 10 years?
You've got me curious.

Publish - shouldn't they?
Dear another taxpayer,
Let me ask you some questions.
1. Do you really think the Pickerington Local School District would publish findings of the cost per pupil rider ship for all to see?
2. Were you ever of a mind to think that local weekly newspaper reporters would do such financial research?
My point is to BASELINE COSTS. In essence, what were our costs before we outsourced the services? Only by getting the baseline costs can there be an analytical approach to such issues of ?“our insurance?” versus ?“their insurance?”, ?“our facility?” versus ?“their facility?”, and so on.
In short, without baseline costs, comparisons are of little value and become subjective ?– which is exactly what at least one of the outsourcers wants.
Do some research yourself --- because you?’ve got to know the PLSD and papers won?’t?…. Have there been accidents and ?“lost?” riders with the current outsource vendor? If you find the answers to be (Yes) then we can assume they aren?’t perfect.
We?’re all taxpayers and I think that you and I (and all the rest of us) deserve to have this part of the PLSD budget severely scrutinized. Heck, its chump change compared to the PEA salaries and benefits, but it is a considerable component of General Fund monies.
By the way ?– when the PLSD moved this item to ?“Outsourcing?” it moved the burden for much of this from Capital equipment (raised primarily via bonds) to Operating expense (raised primarily via levy)
Yes, Laidlaw has been the only outsource provider to date.
I?’ll release my data here in good time.

Just the facts.
Very possibly you are correct. However, your reticence to publish the facts at this time would lead to the belief that you are ''guessing'' rather than ''knowing''.
