Now that the .5% sales tax has failed what happens now? Is this going to be the same old crap just another day? As we have been reading on this web site there was opposition to increasing the county sales tax. It appears there was much more opposition in the county than indicated on this web site in the last week or so.
For those that think that defeating this sales tax increase was competing for tax dollars against a possible Pickerington School bond issue in May then maybe you should have thought that through a little more.
As has been expressed earlier, the Taj Mahal at the corner of Refugee and Pickerington Roads still irritates many in the city. Granted the money has already been spent to build the temple. However each year the tax payers of the entire district must pay that bond down that was taken out to build these facilities. For those that say forget it and get on with our lives that isn't so easy when you are paying for someone else's school and facilities and you get no rewards for your hard work.
This is a huge tax burden on a section of the school district that has less financial affluence that those enjoying the overbuilt facilities.
It will be interesting to find out if the unincorporated areas of Violet Township voted against the .5% sale tax increase. It is also reported that the unincorporated areas of the community are now home rule. Police protection is now the responsibly of Violet Township. Or will this be the same old crap of the more well to do areas of the community relying on the less to do in funding their police protection? The city of Pickerington has their own police department.
Now will we be asked to support a township constable and his police department? Terry Dunlap indicated that would be coming next in his article in the paper.
DON'T ASKED ME TO FUND YOUR POLICE PROTECTION.
It is time, the township residents start carrying their own weight in this community.
