The parity wars have started

Posted in: PATA
Nice headline in the sports section of yesterday's Time Sun making note of the unequal sports facilities between North and Central. It is interesting the story notes the track at Central is 'unusable for meets'. Last time I walked that track it was in fine condition. It is amazing the deterioration that can occur in a year's time when you want to find a reason to tear it up.

Let's set up a pool on the dollar value the board will throw toward the parity project -- I'll offer the first number at $3.5 million.

And you can bet...

...that Wes Monhollen will try to push through a separate soccer stadium for Central. North uses their football field for varsity only soccer matches, while the jv's and lower level football teams play in what was supposed to be a separate soccer stadium, but the board cut out money for the lights for that field, rendering it useless during late season soccer and football matches.
question...

the central coaches complained about the inequity of facilities, but at the same time said they didn't have enough athletes to field all the teams as north does.

my question is that if there aren't enough kids wanting to play at central to field all of the teams, why does central need additional facilities? is it just because north has more bling and central wants to be equal, or does central have a real need for the facilities.

let's spend wisely...
We don't need lights for soccer

PASA has a huge following and interestingly enough the kids are capable of playing thousands of games per season with NO lights.

I also suggest you call the AD at Central and walk the track with him - I am sure he could answer any questions you have about the track.

It seems that facts would be productive than guessing here. Maybe you are right and the answer is we have a perfectly good track we aren't using - but I think there is more to the story. I'd be interested in what you find.
