The parity wars have started

total waste

When I grew up they constructed a new high school in my district. They did not build a new football stadium or track, we shared with the old high school, the athletic directors scheduled the teams and games carefully to make full use of the facility we had on hand and was paid for. We were bussed to the events there as well as for some practices. They did create a football practice field and workout track at the new high school that was usable for training. The schools were seven miles apart.

We pay these atheletic directors more than $80,000 per year, it is called SCHEDULING...schedule your teams to use the other facility and then oops... you have equivalent facilities. It is not like there is a huge distance to drive to get there. I can assure you we felt just at home there as our team name and mascot were displayed right along side of the other schools team name and mascot. There is much more to sports than whether you have multi-million dollar facilities in your backyard.
''bling'' distribution

Is there really inequity in the way ''bling'' (our school tax dollers in PLSD) is distributed?

The time to have addressed the inequity between the schools was before the levy was passed and before plans were approved. In my opinion, the new school should not have any benefits not available to the old school. The outdoor athletic facilities at Central are laughable, why didn't they get a new stadium when that school was built? The facilities at the new h.s. are outrageous, our tax dollars at work -- or should that be at play? High school athletics are all fine and well, but they impact such a small percentage of students in comparison to what is spent on them.
We tried to address

Many of those of us that were on the boundary committee tried to point out the inequities before the decisions we made were overruled by ''La Cosa Boostra''. Many of us again tried to point out the obvious inequities during the levy campaign but were silenced by ''La Cosa Boostra''.

Now that the very things we tried to emphasize to the taxpayers are blatently in our faces (Pick Cash vs. Pick Trash / Haves vs. Have Nots, etc.) what else can we say? We told you so?? No, let's leave those playground tactics to ''La Cosa Boostra''

Read elsewhere in this site for the comments made about the subjects above. You aren't the first to recognize them.

By the way, what the heck is bling?

For Sale - Perfectly good lights

Anyone know of a private school, or one financially smart, that needs a perfectly good set of football field lights? Pick Central is replacing theirs at a cost of $150,000. Hopefully the PLSD board at the least makes an attempt to sell what they are taking down.

Interesting that the contract had a stipulation to 'be exactly the same as Pick Norht...''
