Pickerington Area Taxpayers Alliance

What happened last night?

don't worry Joe

Joe,

you need to write a letter if you cannot be at theses meeting, just so you know many people are working on this issue, they have met with the developer and they have tried to convince him less is more. They have told him they will referenda anything like his original proposal, I figure they are out printing the petions now.

I think at least two trustees will not like this, Gary Wetlich of course, he knows that people do not want this, and if you remember Joe, Harry Myers just moved to Tollgate to get away from all this development didn't he, does he want this in his backyard.

Terry, well, we will see.

I hope two petitions are printed

I only hope if someone is going to do a township referenda that they do two and add Home Rule to the second one.

If the trustee's want to prove they are viable they need to be able to address community concerns on growth.

Actually based on what we heard from the State, I'm not convinced they can't now - they just need to be persuaded that it's important.

Their move!!

I believe we all must be very weary of the BIA and its members. I hope none of you forgot that they as a group sued Pickerington because they passed a moratorium that wasn't a moratorium of 100 houses per year and the citizens passed a 2 lot per acre ordinance to lower the housing density in the city.

The major housing industry (the Big Boys) have one focus and one focus only and that is to make money. They appear to disregard the communities that they profit from by destroying the very reasons that make these communities profitable to build their houses in.

When you have a government limited on its ability to pass laws and enforce anything even zoning laws with out direct participation from the citizens then the builders will exploit that weak spot. All township governments are weak spots in regulating its own future. Yes they can update their Comprehensive Land Use plan and write new zoning laws but after that they are very limited. They can't tax, they can enforce criminal laws and they have very little direct control over the citizens they are suppose to govern. Most of the other vital functions of urban township governments are preformed by the county and state. That is mostly in the form of funding and police protection.

What makes Violet Township so vulnerable to the builders is that you have a trustee, Terry Dunlap, that thinks residential development is a cash cow for the area. Although I haven't heard him say I believe Harry Meyers feels similar to Terry. Both of these men own large tracts of land in the township. This is strike two in my book.

I have also heard the intentions of the large home builders like Dominion say they will be heading to the Township if they lose the suits with Pickerington. In the past, local builder have built high end homes $350K or higher in value and they only built a few per year. Does anyone think that if they get 214 lots approved that it will take them 10 years to build out this project? They will build out 214 homes in one summer season.

So Violet Township your next.
