No boosters around?

Police don't act on heresay

I have no issue with disciplining a child with a bad behavior.

I find it hard to believe that our high school principals have more power than local law enforcement and that Boosters have power over everyone. I try to go to most school board meetings & have never heard your questions asked. Why not? If you feel strongly about this take your comments off this board & to the Board Meeting on Monday night. Ask the police or sherriff to accompany you. Ask publicly with the law enforcement officials why we can't search without a 24 hour notice. Ask if Principals desks can be searched that evening.

Ask the law enforcement officials to publicly let the Board of Education know what we should be doing in our schools that we aren't.

That's just a couple of thoughts but I think it would be more productive than lamenting about what's wrong. Take steps to make it right.

By Parent too.....
Drugs

I have talked with the Police. How do you think I know about the drugs in the Principal desk?
Where are the parents?

There seems to be quite a bit of focus on what the police and school administrators should do, but could the issue really be that parents are too focused on their own lives to take responsibility for the children they choose to bring into the world? Someone who calls himself Concerned Dad is calling for increased use of drug-sniffing dogs to patrol the schools, as if that will take care of the problem. It won't. The problem starts at home, and even if you kick all kids out of school who have ever tried drugs, the community will still be left with a bunch of kids who don't have any parental supervision.

It all starts with the parents. That's the only place it will end.
School has a responsibility

When we send our children off to school the school administrators and the school board takes the full responsibility of these children while they are at school. Granted there are children in this community with little or no supervision from their parents. However just because a number of parents are irresponsible doesn't relieve the school administration of their responsibilities.

If parents allow their teens to use drugs and drink in their own home then that becomes a criminal act. These parents should be prosecuted when these events happen.

When a building has nearly 2000 kids in it then security and safety for all of these children becomes a real problem. I think many regard the school lockers as their home under our constitution and they are not. The school doesn't need a search warrant to search these lockers. We only need some board members with some courage that actually see the problem. School Lockers are board property and they should be subject to inspection at any time with out prior notice.

Why spent all of this time and effort for this DARE program only to have the kids walk into school the next day and see the school administration ignoring the lessons learn in their DARE classes. I am not advocating that the drug problem is the total responsibility of the school system. I am saying that the lack of effort on the part of the school does create a serious problem for those parents that are responsible and keep close tabs on their children.

My point here is that we find people willing to just let it go and blame those parents that they think are the problem. If we have kids that bring drugs to school and these kids have no fear of ever getting caught then the school provides a safe hiding place for these kids despite the efforts of responsible parents.

If you think your parenting skills are so great and your kid would never get involved with drugs then you are as much of the problem as a school district lacks enforcing no drug zones at the school. Our schools have placed these signs near all of our schools. It is time to enforce their policies.
