No boosters around?

An example

It really is a sad state of affairs.

I don't blame the police however in this situation - maybe there's more I don't know. However, the police are merely reacting to a situation. DARE attempts to stop these behaviors by teaching the kids. If programs like that don't have ongoing support from parents and teachers then it will have little impact long-term.

The teachers, administrators and ESPECIALLY PARENTS are failing the children in this community by looking the other way when illegal activities occur and there isn't any punishment.

It's ok to break the law as long as you're at home drinking or doing drugs with your buddies? What is that teaching the kids?

I feel sorry for AJ - he probably wasn't taught to respect boundaries. Instead of being helped and taught he was merely surrounded by enablers because of his athletic abilities.

I'm seen an enourmous amount of extremely spoiled and horrible kids in my days. I try not to judge the kids but look to the parents and usually understand why they are the way they are.

There are exceptions to the rule of course but from what I've been hearing the boosters, teachers and parents around this town are failing our kids terribly when it comes to alchohol and drugs.
What are the facts?

Let?’s all be realistic?… drug and alcohol abuse didn?’t begin in Pickerington, nor did it begin recently. When we all were in high school (and college), there was a large segment of the student population that did drugs and drank alcohol regularly. It?’s always been that way and it most likely always will be.

The problem that I see is that if the above posters are accurate, students are being caught, but not punished. If there is hard evidence that there is some sort of cover up, come forward with the facts, to the authorities, and the press. Publicize what you know for a fact, what you have witnessed, not what you child tells you that they heard was happening.

Is there any way to find out what athletes have been randomly tested for drugs & alcohol? If so, what the results were? To me, that would be a fact.

Don't you dare!

Don't you dare fault the police or Sheriff on this one. They have done everything in their power to try to intervene. The principals, administrators and board are blocking their attempts at intervention. Don't you understand the power that the boosters have? Don't you understand that they have ultimate say in what goes on at our schools? Don't you think that all the administrators and board members cater to them because of their huge voting block?

Get real! We are served by some of the best law enforcement agencies in central Ohio. Don't blame them for anything. Support them by demanding from the board and administrators that ALL confiscated drugs and those who had them are immediately turned over to the police. Don't let the schools slap their hands and send them back to class just because they are a quarterback or star point guard. Demand that the police have the right to make unannounced sweeps with their dog any day, any time and can select to do a locker search or a walk through the classrooms at their discretion, not on the whims of a principal.

GET INVOLVED PARENTS!!!

Would you be upset if your kid was one of the ones being slapped on the hand and sent back to class? Wouldn't you want to know before they moved up from pot to coke or worse? Try and think of every kid there as if they were your own and act appropriately.

I'll save my speech about the sexual harrassment and violence prevelant in our schools AT ALL GRADE LEVELS for another speech.

Inspect the schools for drugs

Let me say there are drugs in the schools and directly down the road. If you parents and adults haven't seen these kids high on drugs at the four way stop Dairy Mart or your local Pizza parlor then you don't get out enough.

I don't buy the response of show me the proof or the facts because you ignored what I just said. We have school Principals making over $100,000 per year sitting on a drug problem to make themselves look good because they don't see a problem and they don't want the parents to know. Most parents I hope are not willing to just let this problem exist because they smoked a little weed in college. Maybe you survived your younger years but will your children? Will other kids that need to sell these drugs to keep their habit going be able to walk away from these problems if they get hooked. Drug dealers now lace marijuana with other more powerful drugs to keep kids addicted. Do you know where your kids are getting their drugs? Are they smoking dope in your house or maybe in the woods behind your house? Do they hide it in their school lockers?

ONE WAY TO FIND OUT FOR SURE IS A SURPRISE VISIT FROM THE POLICE WITH THE DOG. IF THE DOG DOESN'T GET ANY HITS THEN I WAS MISTAKEN. IF THE DOG DOES THEN EVERY STUDENT NEEDS TO BE SEARCHED WITH THE DOG. I WOULD EVEN SAY BRING IN AS MANY DOGS AS POSSIBLE. I THINK WE OWE THE NON DRUG USING STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS THIS IF NOTHING ELSE.
