Need for a New Ordinance

Posted in: PATA
If I understand correctly, the council will be voting to approve the five lane Diley Road later this month.

Maybe at the same time, if this is going to happen, some ordinances can be enacted to protect some of the surrounding area's that sit on Diley Road.

I'm in favor of an Ordinance that limits the sale of alcohol, cigarettes & gasoline within 10,000 feet of a school. That's the last thing we need near children. There will be a lot of commercial opportunities on Diley as soon as we begin to go down the path. Let's be responsible & not do stupid things near a school. All we need is for one of these places to be robbed & then have someone take refuge inside a school building, with kids in portables it's very possible.

Council, if you are going to go down this road, please tread carefully. Be smart and don't put our children at further risk. You guys have already played a huge part to get them to the point they are now - piled into portables.

Don't make a difficult position more unsafe by continuing to pander to the ''develop at any price'' people - some of which sit on the very council that will be building.....

Mr. Sabitino - an Initiative Petition can be run on many things - don't you dare think to put our children at risk for personal gain. You will be on everyone's side until your first gas pump is installed and then they will never hear from you again. I hope the public clearly understands your entire position on this matter. I expect you to represent the desires of the community and not your family in this matter.

Better think twice

10,000 feet is a little under two miles. Will you grandfather in all existing businesses, or will both Kroger stores in Pickerington be forced to rip out their gas tanks, as they will each be within 10K feet of a school? Also, I don't know offhand of any incidents such as you descibe happening, although I could be mistaken.

Kroger also will be forced to stop selling cigarettes, as will the corner market at Refugee & Milnor, among others. While you may argue that that is a good thing, and it may well be, is that what you really are seeking?

It sounds to me like you are swatting a fly with a sledgehammer.
...and also

Better get ready to tell BP and UDF customers that their gas tanks will be no longer available for use. And maybe the SuperAmerica at 256 & Tussing? And just how will you go about replenishing the tax coffers of the city once these places stop selling gas? What will you do to attract businesses that you like to make up for the economic impact you will create?

We deserve an answer

Dear C. Parent,

You state this in your posting

....There will be a lot of commercial opportunities on Diley as soon as we begin to go down the path.

Questions-

Where?
When?
Are you really following the truth or are you confussed by the dribble of those carry over Council members?
Are you forgetting the Monebrake acres went high density condo's?.... NOT COMMERCIAL.
The BIA members, Dominion, M/I, Homewood, Moranda, etc. have all their plat approved, re-zoned, holding building permit carry over from this fumbling moritorium B.S.
... Did Parker and Wright vote to push these plats through? YOU BET THEY DID!
... Did Sabbatino vote to push them through P & Z before they went to Council? YOU BET HE DID!

Pay attention -- housing plats

Mostly where --
DILEY ROAD AREA THAT'S WHERE!

So where is the tax relieving COMMERCIAL LAND for all US PLSD residents?
