Need for a New Ordinance

Clarification

My point is that Sabatino has no business trying to convert a home on Diley Road that is spitting distance to an elementary school into a gas station. Maybe it should be 5,280 feet. I wasn't trying to close Kroger's.

I am sure strip malls will pop up just like they did on 256 - if you think some of that housing (individual homes) won't go commercial then you are dreaming. That's what they are counting on - I just think we should demand that it be quality. I know that's a foreign thought - but someone has to have it first.....Sorry if I've offended all the smokers out there - it seems to be an exceptionally touchy time.

At what point to the kids come before a cigarette ??

Quality?

Fortunately, no one in my family smokes, so that is a moot point for us. However, what type of business is a ''quality'' business? Are you against a gas station? Mini-mart? Is a hair salon ''quality'' enough? A medical office facility? Or do we have ''enough'' of these already? What do you suggest bringing in? Anything large will probably bring out the Screaming Nimbys, so you'd better give that some thought.
Safety first

None of the businesses you mentioned tend to get robbed unlike the example of a gas station.

Someone running on foot could enter a school - why would we want to even take a chance with that ??

I think we need to be careful what is located near schools - especially elementary & middle schools. I would probably also elinimate the ''PAYDAY'' stores & the like.

I think a pediatrician's office would be great !! Probably for the business & the school !!

Please let me weigh in with a few comments. First of all, Diley will be widened to 5 lanes. Council knows they would be recalled in a minute (probably by these same DARE critics) for fiscal irresponsibility or malfeasance if they just flushed all the money spent to date down the toilet by cancelling the project. Second, if they go three lanes, the ODOT project folds and Pickerington is forced to fund the project with no federal assistance. They don't have the money so three lanes won't happen.

Now let's look at the zoning along Diley. All residential. That was accomplished behind closed doors and through emergency legislation by the former council and the three holdovers still there. They all had a hand in it. Why do you think the 2002 initiatives were run that resulted in the restrictions of emergency legislation? With the exception of the small Township strip where a Sabatino plans the 24/7 Super America, unless the trustees have made some secret deals, it is all residential. So stop the panic over armed felons running loose through our schools. Hell, half of Pickerington is armed now if you go by the Sheriff's reports on concealed carry permits.

Now for Mr. or Mrs. Get Real. You think you deserve an answer? You think you deserve anything? Why? I have been to most of the meetings where this Diley Road thing has been discussed. No one, and I mean NO ONE has confronted the people responsible. Quit whining anonymously in this forum and get off your collective a$$es and go to the council meeting tonight. Ask the three old regime councilmen for justice. Quit beating on Hackworth just because he is on Service. Quit berating and threatening the Mayor just because he, unlike them, will speak to you. Quit acting like half of those Diley Road whiners saying ''I've lived here for 30 years and I never heard a thing about this road being widened.''They finally got their heads out of the sand just in time to see the Sabatino Express whizzing by.

Deal with the very people who caused this problem and not those who are stuck with its effect.
