Who are the populist-progressives?

''The populist-progressives are people who simply are politically awake. They can be liberal or conservative, they can be members of any party, but they believe in the Bill of Rights and they believe that we are a human community who have an obligation to work together to solve our common problems and advance our society, and they understand that local, state and federal governments are our tools, our meeting places, our tables of shared power where we meet and bring forth a better community, nation and world. Government is the enemy only when we let it be ''the other'' and not the us. It should be all of us working together for progress. That's progressive. The progressives have a sparkle in their eye that you can see across the room. They are more alive and less fearful than the politically dead, the hate mongers, the fear mongers who think that only their own church or their own gated community can be the seat of common action. The progressives are more interested in responsible behavior than those who are interested in promoting oppressive power at home and around the world, and the suppression of diversity instead of the celebration and nurturing of diversity. The progressives celebrate and advance the sharing of power among equal citizens. Progressives are the Davids who defend the human scale of politics, the economy and civilization itself against over-scaled Goliaths, whether they be unrepresentative governments or overlarge corporations, which are also unrepresentative governments.'' --Doris ''Granny D'' Haddock

Take the fight to them

Granny D Claims to be progressive and she is just vague enough that once cornered with her claims that she can swing either way. It was interesting that she blamed the former Shah of Iran for so many our Middle East problems. Our actions in the region have always been a tough sell for those that live there. Mainly because they are controlled by their religion and that is why our founding fathers separated our government from any kind of state religion. Our protesters seem to still want to rely on a god to protect us and save us from our enemies. That is the very same theory that condemned the Jews in the 1930s. Peace and love will not protect us. Boots on the ground over there will.

I also see on the news this evening that there are anti-war protestors parading around our major cities demanding that Bush bring the troops home. It is also ironic that one of the largest protests going on is in New York City. I didn?’t see them walking around the site of the former world trade center buildings. Maybe their unknowing purpose is to create another ground zero there in New York.

I get so aggravated by these expert anti-war protesters that make no sense. They all want to blame the United States and they believe the rest of the world hates us. Please tell me why we have so many problems controlling our borders in our effort to keep illegal aliens out?

The reason for the Iraq war was to take the fight there. Clearly the people of Iraq have been suppressed for over 30 years and their ability to rise and defeat Saddam Hussein was a long time off without some outside force coming in.

These same damn idiots that claim we went to war for Oil. DUH!!!!!!!!!!! If George Bush Senior had not pushed Iraq out of Kuwait he would now be in control of 75% of the world?’s oil. Please in another forum I can tell you all the products that we all use that are made from this oil. If we left it up to these protesters we would all be riding donkeys and bathing in the Sycamore Creek.

I fully support the idea of having our troops in Iraq. Do any of you war protesters know that we have troops in Bosnia? In Germany? In South Korea? In Haiti? I know it is easy to say we shouldn?’t be the world?’s police force, but we are. We have the most powerful army in the world and it only works well when we support our own troops and we are not dependant on others.

What our enemies fear is that yet another country (Iraq) will become a democracy and their hiding places will be come less.

A pentagon insider's view

Dear Marine,

I have the utmost respect for our military and know what it is like to be in the military firsthand and I am proud of my service as I am sure you are of yours. Our men and women in uniform make me so proud to say I have been in uniform before and I believe every American could learn something by having the experience of serving their country.

I think you should read this article as it was written by a former Pentagon employee.
