People walking on the tracks

Posted in: Woodlawn Park

No one agency wants to take ownership of the easement and track behind WP. So the entire time we've lived here we've had "punk" kids walking along. I use the term punk in the worst fashion, as no one back there has a need to be there for anything legal.

We own dogs, and of course the punk kids love to tease the dogs, and then there are a few sicko punks that get kicks by trying to harm our pets. I can assure them, this is going to stop.

My dog was out back on Thursday, and some kids walked along and hit him with a large rock from the tracks. He is presently in the animal hospital awaiting surgery for his injury on Monday. The gash was so deep and wide that they cannot stitch it, and it was developing an infection.

So, if you are the parent of a teenager that walks along the tracks, I am just going to throw out a bit of advice to pass on to your kids. Keep off, or keep walking. If I see anyone back there from now on, law enforcement will be called and charges will be filed. I fully intend to request for our WP officer step up his presence back there to put an end to this foot traffic. The only place people head on those tracks is the 264 overpass, where they drink, smoke, and vandalize the property.

It is ILLEGAL to walk on CSX property, and the rest of the property is privately owned.

I know what you are saying.  I walk my dog every day and one of our routes has us going behind kroger then back in the neighborhood.  I see and ask ( kids) or (punks) whats going on every time..Their answer is run and then they are gone.  I feel bad to what happened to your pet.  If their is anything I can do to help please ask.  Its just not right when these a##hole kids who probably do not live here mess with a neighbor much less their pet.  Very uncool...I would love to help you get justice.   Animal abuse is the worst kind.  In my opinion tie the bastards up and let the rocks fly.  Sorry but that is how I feel!!!

Apologize I got a little emotional with the last post but abuse, of any kind, strikes a nerve with me.

I share your emotion, if not your action, Rufus. Venting is fine. I hope we all understand.

The last time I walked the tracks back to the overpass I was alarmed at the amount of drug paraphenalia that was present all over the place. Crack, marijuana, huffing oven cleaner, and alcohol certainly seems to be the drugs of choice. And quiet a few used condoms here and there.

I'm just not sure what can be done. The police can't be there all the time. And I doubt seriously you're going to get officers to walk there much at all to monitor the situation. Perhaps pressure could be brought on CSX or Roads Dept. to do something structurally to make it not such a great hangout. I'm just grasping here.

One thing to add... let's not get caught up into thinking it's somebody else's kids, some other neighborhood's kids that are coming here to do this. I recognize the kids I see on the tracks from time to time and many are from Woodlawn Park.
