Newburg Christian Church

Thoughts on the Journey - Rev. Ed Huckleberry

Nov 30, 2008

August 1, 2004 ?– November 30, 2008. Those are the dates of my ministry at Newburg Christian Church, appropriately both are Sundays. Those are the dates of my time as your pastor, but the most important and least noticed is the dash between those dates. That where our real work together took place. The dash represents our life together, it represents our celebrations and our times of concern. It represents the joys of growing friendships and the depths of growing faith. The dash makes us a Christian family.
God brought us together to grow His kingdom and to help people in this community realize that this is a church that cares for them and is willing to get its hands dirty in serving them. The dash makes us a servant church.
The dash represents the hundreds and hundreds of people we have served through Dare to Care and our A Little Hope fund. It represents the dozens of children who came to our Vacation Bible School, some of whom had never set foot in a church before. It represents nearly 30 adults and youth who became part of the Kingdom of God through baptism into Jesus Christ or by transfer. The dash makes us a church with a purpose.
I would urge you to never forget our purpose, put it in your heart and live it each and every day. It was never my purpose but God?’s purpose for this church. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your pastor in the dash.
