NEAR, a community of people working together to provide leadership in revitalizing our neighborhood.

We strive to becom a neighborhood of choice where everyone is safe, informed and involved.

Our Vision

The vision of NEAR is that of a community of vibrant neighborhoods, active service institutions, thriving entrepreneurial endeavours, academically successful schools, strong churches, and empowered individuals working creatively on the challenges of re-building and sustaining the community.

Where We Started

NorthEast Area Renaissance, or NEAR, is a Northeast Canton, Ohio, community organization begun in 1992 by a small group of residents, businesses, churches, associations and social agencies to contribute to a rebirth of the economic, social, cultural, and spiritual life of the community.

The quadrant is defined by Maple Avenue on the west to the city limits on the east and from Sixth Street on the south to Atlantic Boulevard on the north. The gateway to the area is a trio of beautiful green spaces - Nimisilla Park, Cook Park, and Cook Lagoon. The Lagoon which is fed by branches of the Nimishillen Creek is the site of an annual fishing derby sponsored by Stark Parks.
