The FIRST item on the agenda is to raise money for Muscatine's first Disc Golf Course at Weed Park!
Thanks to Muscatine Park and Rec. Director Larry Wolf and Assistant Rec. Director Richard Klimes. Mr. Wolf, Mr. Klimes along with two Muscatine residents Scott Harmon and Tanner Duncan presented a proposal for a Disc Golf Course at Weed Park to the Muscatine Recreational Advisory Commission on April 4th, 2001. The commission endorsed the proposal and recommended that we present to the City Council for final approval two weeks later. The Muscatine City Council unanimously endorsed the ''Disc Golf at Weed Park proposal'' and we are now seeking funding for the project! If you would like to help fund the disc golf course please contact Parks director Larry Wolf. Thanks to all those people involved in this endeavor. The total funds needed for a first class Disc Golf course will be around $25,000. After acquiring the funds we will clear the fairways (airways) for each hole. Then we Install the baskets, Tee Signs and tee pads.
In the state of Kansas many school districts compete against each other in the sport of disc golf. Bettendorf, Burlington, Washington, Tipton, Iowa City, Fort Madison, Milan, Keokuk are just a few of many Iowa cities that currently already have a disc golf course in one of there city parks. This spring Davenport will have a new 18 hole Disc Golf Course installed at Eastern Ave Park! Muscatine?’s New Disc Golf Course at Weed Park was approved by the City Council in April of 2001 and plans are is place to build it. We are still waiting for ?“outside funding?” for the New Disc Golf course. We hope to receive funding and build soon so our community can start preparing to compete at all ages and all levels, local state and national. Disc Golf is growing every year and played competitively all over the world.
