Run away spending, and rights taken away

Posted in: Muscatine

I was in a Muscatine eatery last week. My nose was itching, so I was scratching it. To the hostess, it looked like I was picking my nose. She came over and told me to stop it or leave. I stopped it because I had not finsihed my fantastic dinner. Did I lose a right?

Rights are not something we automatically get.  With rights comes responsibility.  If we choose to accept the rights we also choose to accept the responsibility.  You have the right to live inside the city limits or not.  If you do choose to live there, their are certain responsibilities.  Like keeping your grass mowed and and your yard neat.  It is your responsibility not to let fires burn where they can get out of control and affect the neighbors.  Your problem isn't that your rights are being violated, your problem is that you are not willing to accept any responsibility for your action.  Go join a hippie commune where anything goes and there is no personal responsibility and see how you like that.

The reason we have rules about your grass clippings is because they get into the storm drains and plug them up.  They cause problems at the treatment plant which ultimately costs money.  Asking you to be careful where your clippings go isn't a violation of your rights it is the responsible thing to do to save money.  Your "rights" aren't being violated but these ordinances are ensuring your responsibilty.

It is also your RESPOSIBILITY to use the spell checker once in a while.

Opie....I have always appreciated your "cut to the chase" method of posting, and your common sense outlook.  Count me among those who would like to see more of your thoughts here.

Thanks Nigel, "cut to the chase"?  Usually I am "cutting the cheese" or "cutting the mustard" adding to the air pollution problems they are complaining about.

I see I misspelled "Responsibility" in the last line.  I need to take my own advise and use the spellchecker too.
