Slow economy? Obama blames ATM's

Posted in: Muscatine

"Banks have found it more economical to pay for labor, material, construction and installation of ATMs than pay a teller to hand out paper money." And just how many banks thought that staying open 24 hrs a day, like ATMs, was a great idea? Not many it seems. Convenience wins again. I can remember when stores were not open on Sundays and certainly no stores were open 24 hrs/day! I doubt that paying a teller was upmost on the minds, I think it was the changes in society that wants everything RIGHT NOW that has changed the way business is performed.

JC.....you make far too much sense for the three stooges to be able to understand.

Banks have found it more economical to pay for the labor, material, construction and installation of ATM's than pay a teller to hand out paper money.   So I think the jobs lost are greater than the jobs gained.

It would be interesting to see how you try to prove otherwise.

Well, I did say "likely", which needs no more proof than you offer, mallcontent. Let's see you prove what you state.  However, since YOU specified "labor, material, construction, installation"...(you forgot continuing maintenance and refilling machines); vs "a teller" ...I think common sense dictates there are more jobs involved with ATM's then the single teller you bring up that you and nobama, the US muslim president from kenya, think lost jobs due to ATMs. Especially when considering the manufacturing of the ATM's too. But; far be it from me to let facts interfere with your agenda. Seen the latest jobs report? he he he. No comment on that post thread, huh?

BTW, mallcontent; the nobama June monthly jobs report reflects by occupation, that the sector for management, business, and financial operations occupations (that would be banking for you liberals that can't read big words), saw unemployment rates of 4.8% for June 2010, while this current nobama June 2011 jobs report reflects 4.6% unemployment.  Since banking is not separated from the other two; how do you suppose nobama came up with the "ATM's cost banking jobs" hyperbole?
