This is like the old sitcom in the 60's/70's or whatever. Instead of "Car 54 Where Are You?" It's "Local 86D Where Are You?" No comments in the Journal. nothing here. NOTHING!!!!!!!!! If you had any money you'd buy up ADM or Cargill stock. The Salvation Army is right up the road and MCSA is at the corner of Third and Iowa.

I have a question about the union in relation to other unions which may be involved in doing business with GPC.  Trucks go in and out of that location and I am wondering if any are union members.  The teamsters union was once a powerful  union so are any of these truckers union members?  If so, but I doubt it, why would they cross another union's picket lines?  If other unions are involved in the business of GPC, why are they not supporting the local?  Anyone know more about this?

I was wondering the same thing. Where is the solidarity always shown before by various factions? What about the rail union as well? Or barge workers? Or other service industry that serves GPC and might be union? Is business that bad that they have to keep their business working and can't blaclist GPC during a picket?

My wife and I were on a flight from Moline right after July 4th; and a guy sitting behind us started talking to another about his meetings at GPC. He was flying back to their Indiana facility. Overheard him say that since the economy was bad in Indiana and affecting the plant there, that there were many workers there that could be and have volunteered to move to Muscatine to take over operations there due to the workforce issues at that plant. Again, that was back in July.

Don't know who the guy was; just overheard him say it.

I have read several Articles in the opinion page of the Journal from the Union with at least one in the last week.

I have been past the plant many times and I have never seen over one truck at the gate at any given time. I can remember when they were lined up on Oregon street waiting to get in. This tells me production is way down from what it was. Also a lot of those little trucking companies are non Union and I am not sure about the railroad but my guess would be the same way.

The Indiana plant has never been a success as told to me by a general supervisor that retired rather than transfer over there, so this would make me think people that were transferred to Indiana would jump at the chance to come back especially those that did not have a choice.
