I guess this makes me an elitist, but I think a frighteningly large number of Americans have become too stupid for their (and our) own good. There is nothing partisan about this, because I think that stupidity is spread across the political spectrum and is even more apparent in apolitical arenas such as the commercials shown during NFL games. Yesterday, Peyton Manning told me that, if the most NFL games are shot using SONY cameras, I should obviously be watching those games on a SONY HD TV. Clearly, the SONY research department has decided that enough idiots will think that is a logical argument and buy SONYs to justify the tens of millions of dollars spent making and airing the ad (that equates to a lot of idiots mind you).

So, back to politics, I don't think you're stupid because you live in a flyover state. I don't think you're stupid because of the level of education you've reached, your profession or income, your religion, your hobbies, your political affiliation or your Presidential candidate of choice.

None of those is the reason I think you're stupid. I think you're stupid if you haven't noticed Barack Obama's many changes on his positions that are clearly politically motivated, not just a reasonable flexibility due to changing conditions.

I think you're stupid if you think that because Sarah Palin could drive 45 miles down to Anchorage and then hop a flight to Nome, Alaska and then hop another flight to Gambell, Alaska where she could then see distant Siberian mountains that any of us could see on a postcard, that she has any shred of foreign policy experience whatsoever. I think you're stupid if you don't realize that Palin and McCain and the GOP wouldn't have even attempted such ridiculous spin if they had anything else whatsover to go on.

I think you're stupid if you don't see the double hypocrisy of Obama criticizing McCain's length of service in Washington when Biden has been there longer or McCain's criticizing Obama's experience and then picking Palin.

I think you're stupid if you've been nodding your head when listing to "feminists" say that Sarah Palin's job should be mothering her five kids and pending grandkid.

I think you're stupid if you think that 140,000 U.S. troops concentrated in Iraq is an impediment to any radical jihadist from Pakistan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc, etc. from coming to America to do us harm (as opposed to the bipartisan, common-sense pulling up of our pants after 9/11).

I think you're stupid if you want to kick the liberals out of the White House. I think you're stupid if you are unaware that in the three general elections that Bush or McCain have been the GOP nominee, they have been endorsed by the other.

I think you're stupid if you saw the trust that Bush placed in Brownie, Rummy, Tenet, Bremer, Gonzalez, Harriet Myers, Putin, etc. and are now saying "who does he recommend for us now".

I think you're stupid if you think that field dressing a moose or playing the saxaphone is a good qualification for any political office.

Actually, there are so many reasons that I think you're stupid I can't list them all here. This stupidity is becoming such a heavy rock strapped to the neck of this nation, it is really hard not to fear a complete collapse.

But I did want to get it out there that I think you (meaning anyone who qualifies above) are indeed stupid. And I'm apparently one of those elitists that doesn't use the word stupid as a compliment.

I think we are stupid.  Sometimes we get wrapped up in our own little lifes we fail to stop and look at what is going on around us.  But is it really stupidity, or is it more apathy.  I think we see what is going on, but feel to helpless to change anything.  One vote doesn't mean anything when there are 6 million other votes out there.  For me it is more a feeling of helplessness than stupidity.  I can see what is going on, and I agree with everything that has been said in the original post, but what can I do to change it?  All I can do is try and change my little corner of the world one person at a time.

I agree. I think the best we can do is change things a little at a time. It does make you think about how stupid some have become.
