Does anyone know the answer?

Yesterday was a primary in Puerto Rico. I happened to catch a newscast that said that Puerto Rico cannot vote in the general election. I have asked a couple of people why do they have a primary if they can't vote in the general election. Does anyone else feel like this was an exercise in futility? I saw some figures last week of the monies raised and spent SO FAR on this election and it was close to 3/4 BILLION DOLLARS. That is a lot of money that could really do some good. Obviously we need to waste some more money and have a pretend primary in Puerto Rico. I'm confused - or is cornfused? LOL

Even more curious... Puerto Rico (which isn't even a state at this point and doesn't, as just curious pointed out, have a say in the electoral college) has more delegates to the national convention than 27 existing states. So in essence, Puerto Rico has a larger say in the nominating process than over half the states in the union. Go figure.

If this primary season doesn't prove that the entire nominating process needs to be revamped, then I don't know what does.

I was wandering the same thing myself and I have to agree, something needs to be done about the whole system.

I think the reason they get more delegates than 27 states is because they have a latter primary.

The later you hold your primary, the more delegates you get, as sorta a reward for not doing it all in January and February. Normally it doesn't matter because a nominee is already determined by this point.
