Muscatine

Did I hear that former Iowa basketball player  Pierce  was given another 30 days in jail (in Iowa) for going to a casino in Las Vegas while he was attending a pro basketball tryout camp in California?  I thought his conviction and original sentence were well deserved, but he served a year in prison.  Why can't the "system" leave the kid alone and let him get on with his life?? 

I think Pierce lives with his parents in Illinois,  was in California trying to catch on with a pro team and has no further connection with Iowa.  Don't think he got into any trouble in Cal. or Vegas except for some rinky dink violation of his Iowa probation.  Why are we still trying to ruin whatever chance he has to amount to something?

The real question, as I see it, is why is Pierce on this mission of self destruction? They catch him at something, give him a few simple rules to live by for a length of time, turn their backs and he violates those rules. Why can't he follow simple temporary instructions? Who does he think he is?

He obviously thinks that he IS an NBA player. He is just emulating their behaviours. He has had several "breaks" - they let him come back to the Hawkeyes - but just as Nedl says he is determined to self-destruct. Too bad - he could have made something of himself.

Well, I'm thinking  he still possibly could.  Maybe instead of more jail  time at taxpayer expense, 8 weeks of  going to church would do the trick : )
