In my granddaddy's day, lots of bars were like that. Most real ladies wouldn't go in those places. I remember spitoons placed about the floors. Animal heads and fish on the walls. No TV's but a radio at one end of the bar for listening to games. When my dad was at war (ww2) I was about 3-4 and gramps would take me with him in his '28 Ford as he ran errands. This always included a stop or two at some small bar, much like I described. Pop for me, whiskey for gramps.

I don't think we need this. We need something for young people, not a whole bunch of drinking establishments. We have between 10 and 20 bars already. People in Muscatine can go get drunk anytime they want, but there isn't anything else to do and isn't it starting to get annoying? |
