I received a statement yesterday from my insurance company showing Unity had billed them for a M.R.I. performed on me in February 2006 for a little over $ 3000.00 and needless to say it was rejected.

My carrier has a contract with them stating all charges have to be submitted in a timely manor and this statement was not submitted in a timely manor. Thefore there will be no payment.

How can you operate if you do not send out your statements ?

Kenn - I would challenge the charge with the medical provider. Most medical establishments request insurance information to file claims for your treatment. If a error occurs and they file late this is their error and not yours.

I had a bill very much like this that the provider had to take responsibility for due to their error.

Good luck

Peace

I think you missed the point as my insurance company is responible for my insurance claims up to their limitations and this is with in the limitations. They also have a contract with Unity with limits that can be charged for all provided care plus the statements must be mailed in a timely manor. They are saying two years is not a timely manor.

If they do not agree with the insurance companys payment their only option is to take me to court. In that case my Insurance company has to furnish me with counsel and pay all expenses for counsel plus anything the court awards against me.

My monthly charges for treatment right now are running around $4250.00 per month and the providers settle for around 55% as payment in full.

I would be willing to bet the farm that I never hear from Unity about this as they have messed up like this before and they asorbed the cost.

Got so tired of Unity's total inept billing and accounting practices that we have discontinued using ANY Unity service - period.  The really absurd part is - they're a hospital, and they don't care; not about their patients or this community.  Otherwise there would have been a concentrated effort to correct the problems a multitude of people in Muscatine have expressed via stories in the Journal and on this board, among others.

I frankly am pleased as punch with everyone we deal with in connection with Dr. Atwell's venture.  Maybe he should buy out Unity?  Naw, why buy them? He'll get all their business eventually.  If Cal's people don't have what I need, I'll drive to QCA, Burlington, Peoria - anywhere before I ever go back to Unity.
