The "livable wage" is an interesting subject. What is "livabel." Does it include cable tv, net access, suv's, a night on the town on sat, $100.00 tennis shoes for the kids, cell phones, the latest video game, burgers at mc d's for lunch, the latest style of jeans and all the other THINGS we have come to call "living"? I realize no one should be expected to sacrifice to the point of all but the bare minimum of existance---bread and water--but how many folks have come to expecet--demand--those THINGS that are not really the stuff we NEED to get by in life?e
Our expectations need re-examining. I fear the time of reckoning about our largess is coming regardless of what party is in power.

That is a very good question on the livabel wage and I will try to explain my thoughts on it.
Recently I had a conservation with my tax man and he told me that a couple living on a $ 25000.00 income was classified as living in poverty by the federal goverment.
If you divide that money by 2080 hours, 40 hours a week times 52 weeks that averages out around $ 12.50 per hour. Most insurances will run around $ 550.00 per month per couple with the last estimates I had, and it had been a while so I could be off.
In my opinion this does not leave much for housing, food, utilitys, taxes and so on.
I guess we lived our lives different than most as we did not live on impressions, Suv's as they do not impress me. We paid our self each week in the form of savings and lived with what was left over. There were some tough times but we are able to have a decent retirement living by what I call our means.
Oh yes everything was paid for long before I retired and I agree with you that therte are some tough times ahead regardless of the up coming elections.
