I think it is wrong. The government is getting way into my personal business when it comes to this and with a lot of other things, but I will stay on topic here. They tax the hell out of smokes to make more money then they want to ban it. Where are they going to get the money from once everyone stops smoking? They have to make it up some place, right now they make a killing in the taxes they charge on cigs, which does not even touch the non smokers since they don't buy them. But if you take what is "My" right away then they have to find a new thing to tax and it will hit everyone.

I also think that if a non smoker doesn't like the fact that this place or that allows smoking then don't go there. That is the same for smokers, if you don't like the fact that you can't smoke at this place or that then don't go there. If an employee didn't like it then why are they working there in the first place there are plenty of places they can get jobs at that don't allow smoking. Also as a person that has worked in many establishments that allow smoking. I would choose to work in the smoking section. I know from personal experience that the smokers tip better than non smokers.

Interesting post.  As a former smoker, I can see both sides of the story.  I think smoking in restaurants shouldn't be allowed.  When I was a smoker, and I went out with my non smoking friends, I would sit in the non smoking section.  I was able to go an hour without smoking (you just have to smoke like a chimney when you get back to your car).  Bars are a different situation.  When you go to a bar, you're usually there for a few hours at least.  I would have found it hard to go several hours without a cig when I was smoking.  I agree that the government should stay out of this.  Leave it up to bar owners.  If they aren't losing business by being smoking or non smoking, let them make that decision.  I agree that if a non smoker doesn't like second hand smoke, they need to find someplace else to go.  My non smoking friends and I still go to smoke filled bars.  That's our decision to expose ourselves to the second hand smoke.  If I didn't like it, I would find something else to do or someplace else to go.

Hypocrits thats what they are!!!

if your going to pass a law then it should be for everyone,  DO NOT exempt someone because you are going to lose revenue.  in other words you fear the employees will be harmed by 2nd hand smoke but for a  price you don't care really what happens to them.  Good grief what hyocrits.  That law will be challenged by the supreme court by someone and it will be repealed and all at the taxpayers expense.  You will be selling  your soles on this one elected officials if you make exemptions.  go all the way or leave it alone

Rainman,

Do you think the government should even get involved, or should it be left up to individual establishment owners?  I view this the same way I view the seatbelt law.  It should be my choice whether or not I wear one.  I'm not hurting anyone but myself by not wearing one.  Motorcyclists aren't required to wear a helmet.  As a customer, I have the choice as to whether I go to the establishment or not.  As an owner, I should have the right to allow or ban smoking in my place of business.
