I would really like to know how it came to pass that they are going to close the intersection. I have been in areas where they have kept the road open and made a new road. I have also seen where there is no close, detour of building a temporary road for the duration of the construction. Being new to the area I would have never taken a job across the bypass had I known this was going to happen. I also worry about the time delay for an ambulance to Lutheran Homes or any residences out there needing a fire truck. I think it was VERY poor planning. And if anything happened to my loved ones during the duration I think I would find someone to sue. As far as I can tell the stop light took care of the problem of accidents at that intersection. I have also watched semis go up that hill without difficulty. Why is it that Hershey is not left as it is and just build a bridge over it? I watched this type of situation go on before and there was just a few days and for just a few hours at a time were the roads closed. For those people coming from Wapello-Grandview _Letts area it is my understanding that the road they would have to take is not very well maintained. I hope for their sake someone is willing to step up to the plate and take care of it. I think this is a poorly planned development and so far as I can see a waste of tax money. I think the hole thing sucks!

Bypass and Hershey Concerns?

Call the Iowa Department of Transportaion Office on Lake Park Blvd. If that office doesn't address your concerns they will direct you to where your questions will be answered.

Well

The bypass has been a D.O.T. nightmare ever since it was built. There was extremely poor engineering in design of the intersections and the width of the center median.

To get to your question, it should be no problem at all for emergency service. They will take an alternate route just like you and every one else will.

The last time I checked the folks coming to Muscatine from Grandview & Letts have a pretty good road called Hwy.61. It will still be open during the construction, only Hershey will be closed.

If they are going to complete this long overdue project by Thanksgiving, then they are going to need to close Hershey. You can't acomplish this task if you have to spend all your time worrying about traffic control and keeping the road open. Closing it will allow the contractor to work uninterupted by traffic so they can focus on the project and not some orange barrels, orange barrels everywhere I see. (a little joke if you know who Todd Yahn is)I can't wait for them to get started so they can finish sooner.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with your sue happy attitude. Anything can happen to anyone. A road closure is not just cause in my opionion to sue somebody if someone were to get hurt or have a fire.

Just because you don't agree with it doesn't mean it isn't a good thing. In a year I'm guessing you won't think it ''sucks''.

A road improvement at an intersection that will no longer have fatality accidents when completed is a reason to sue if something happens to your loved ones while construction is completed? I wonder how you'd feel if you were a family that has already lost someone at that intersection?

Maybe you need to move your family into a glass and/or atmospheric controlled bubble next to a hospital and whole foods store somewhere during construction!

But you'd have to ask the liberals which country that would be in, since America is the most hated and at-risk country in the world now; according to them.
