Last week, the Muscatine County Board of Supervisors approved 6 percent pay increases for themselves. They also approved 4.8 percent increases for the county attorney, auditor, treasurer, recorder, and sheriff.

None of these people, not one deserve this level of a raise. Most other governments are granting raises between 3-3.5%.
This is why County government needs to be ablolished or at least changed. They are accountable to no one. Some idiotic compensation board throws them a number and then they decrease it so it looks like they are taking the high road, but still come out smelling like a rose.
If anything, the Sheriff, Treasurer, County Attorney, Auditor, and Recorder should have their wages decreased. Oh wait, the Treasurer needs to make payments on that Mercedes. It must be tough.

Even

Even if Muscatine County supervisor's pay is 30% below the statewide average for suprevisor's pay? You want it down further?

You get what ya pay for. Keep the salary low and you won't attract any better or more higher educated or otherwise qualified candidates.

Was wondering; will you be running for office any time soon to fix all that you complain about at the city and county levels?

Others have posted here about the ''good 'ol boy'' element at the county level. You want greater professionals? Pay should be equivalent to greater professional's pay then.

County supervisor's pay is 79th out of 99. That's fairly low across the board.

Was also wondering what the type of car a person personally drives has to do with quality of service in office?

I agree

You get what you pay for, and look what we've gotten. If they want more pay it should be performance based, and not based on what other counties pay. How do we know those in other counties don't actually do a good job? We have the lemmings, nothing more, and you can't buy intelligence or common sense, which these people have none of. But hey it's your tax money too, and if you think that's how it should be spent, have at it.

cost of living

I think the point is when was the last time the average worker/taxpayer got a cost of living raise. If any at all if you ask around that number is more like 1 or maybe 2 percent.
