Mt. Hope/Helix Heights Residents Association

Councilmember Tony Young at Mt Hope Meeting

Aug 06, 2005

Councilmember Tony Young paid us a surprise visit at our August Meeting. (Don't forget our meetings are the first Thursday of every month).

Councilmember Young brought us some updates about the closing of the Community Service Center (which took place at the end of June), and his ambition to bring the services back into area. He indicated that the District maintained its level of 6-to-6 programs for children. This is most important since it is a pro-active approach to deter youth participation in gangs, graffitti and other crimes. Also, it is a very positive catalyst in providing constructive distractions for youth.

In addition, the libraries and Park & Rec services will also be maintained.

Budgetery constraints are of utmost concern to the Councilman.

Councilmember Young assured us that he will return and is planning a massive clean-up of the area, involving several volunteers who will paint out graffitti and plant trees in addition to having a bin clean up. Good! We're all looking forward to it.
