It's not news that seniors are a favorite target of phone and email fraud, but even though we know it, the number of victims is reportedly going up, not down. The first step in prevention of this type of fraud is to never give out your Social Security number or banking information to any unsolicited caller or emailer....and of course, NEVER send money directly to anyone you have not checked out, no matter how real the threats they use seem. If you suspect that you have become a victim or that someone has attempted to make you a victim, report it by either contacting StopFraud.gov or calling the toll-free hotline of the Senate Special Committee on Aging: 1-855-303-9470.
