The R. Kent and Gertrude N. Blair House

Mecklenburg County's first property designated as a historic landmark in 2026 is the R. Kent and Gertrude N. Blair House. Located at 529 N. Poplar Street in Charlotte, the Blair House is the best preserved surviving example of the Foursquare style of residential architecture in Fourth Ward.

Survey Committee 2026 Meetings

The 2026 meeting dates for the Survey Committee have been scheduled through June. The public is always welcome at Survey Committee meetings. All meetings start at 6 p.m. and are held at the Historic Landmarks office at 2100 Randolph Road, Charlotte, with a Microsoft Teams option, unless otherwise noted.

The Survey Committee reviews designation reports and recommends the historic landmark designation of properties to the HLC. This Committee also maintains the Study List of Prospective Historic Landmarks, an inventory of properties that the Committee believes is potentially eligible for historic landmark designation.

More details and meeting agendas can be found at HL.MeckNC.gov closer to each meeting date.

  • April 29
  • June 17

Also . . . If you know of a historic resource (at least 50 years old) in Mecklenburg County that you think we should look into, submit it for Study List consideration.

Not every property on the Study List ends up designated as a historic landmark, but all nominated properties are researched and documented.
