What is it? The Good Neighbor Network is similar to a Crime or Neighborhood Watch program. These networks are typically started in conjunction with the police. Our Network will be a bit more informal but similarly structured. Our intent is to build a partnership with the community to reduce crime and improve livability. Similar to the Montclaire Neighborhood Association, it is open to all residents.
The purpose of the Good Neighbor Network is to disseminate urgent information regarding crime or emergency situations (i.e. missing persons, scams, etc) in order to prevent crime and keep our community safe. In addition, the Network will give residents a forum in which to voice their concerns, ideas and learn how to prevent crime via an annual gathering.
How does the network operate? The network typically will work when a crime or emergency situation occurs. Once an issue has been identified, the Network Coordinator contacts the Block Liaisons who then begin to contact their neighbors via phone or e-mail. An example could be an individual spotted breaking into cars on a particular street or a car that has just been stolen out of its driveway.
If a resident notices a suspicious individual, they should contact their local police first and then their Block Liaison. The Block Liaison then contacts the Network Coordinator. From that point, the information spreads to the general neighborhood.
If I fill out the Resident Information Card, will my information be given out to other individuals or groups? All information will be kept confidential by the Block Liaisons as well as the Network Coordinator. A master copy will be kept by the Network Coordinator in the event the Block Liaisons retire their duties so you can still be informed.
However, it is up to the resident to keep the Network organization informed of any changes to their information; i.e. phone #’s, e-mail addresses, etc.
And if I report something will it be anonymous?
Yes! Anything reported by the resident will be kept confidential.
Who, how and where should I call if my information changes? Your first step will be to contact your Block Liaison. If a Liaison has retired their responsibilities or is unavailable, you can submit and update your information by sending an e-mail to our Network Coordinator. An email link is provided below.
