City services #keeppounding for the home team, departments seek fun ahead of Super Bowl 50

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 3, 2016) – As the Carolinas prepare to cheer on the Panthers in Super Bowl 50, no one is more excited than staff from the City of Charlotte. While fans make their way to the stadium before a game or head out after to celebrate a win, city crews work diligently to ensure a safe, enjoyable time for all of Panther nation and its guests.

Learn more about how the city supports the Panthers on Sundays every season, and take a look at city events or friendly wagers leading up to Super Bowl 50:

  • Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS): Transit numbers soar on Game Days; extra buses and trains help get everyone to the game safely and on time.
  • Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD): As most Panthers’ games are considered Extraordinary Events, CMPD works hard to make sure fans have a fun and safe experience.
  • Solid Waste Services: Solid Waste crews are always ready on Sundays to clean around the stadium and make sure Uptown is ready to go for Monday.
  • Economic Development: With people flocking to Charlotte on game days, the city sees an increase in tourism dollars, which are invested back into the city.
  • Mayor’s Office:  Mayor Jennifer Roberts and Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock are wagering football jerseys from their respective teams. Should the Panthers win, Mayor Hancock will post a picture of himself on his Twitter account @MayorHancock wearing a #1 Cam Newton jersey. Should the Broncos win, Mayor Roberts will wear a #18 Peyton Manning jersey and post a picture of herself on her Twitter account @CLTMayor.
  • Animal Care & Control: Animal Control will be holding a Pup Rally in support of the Carolina Panthers in Uptown on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dogs available for adoption will be named for Panthers’ players and wearing Panthers clothing.
  • Charlotte Water: Charlotte Water will be competing with Denver Water on Twitter in the #WaterBowl2016, where they will conduct daily Twitter polls asking users to choose between a Charlotte or Denver water-related activity. Charlotte Water also joined #SewerBowl2016, a nationwide campaign focused on clean water.
  • Charlotte Fire Department (CFD): Charlotte Fire Department and Denver Fire Department issued  a Super Safety Challenge. The city of the winning Super Bowl team will receive 200 Kidde smoke alarms, while the city the losing team will receive 50 Kidde smoke alarms. The Fire Chief from the losing city will have to install the alarms while wearing the winning team’s jersey.
