Leash Laws

Posted in: Meadow Oaks

My wife and I frequently walk our dog along the green belt, both east and west of Sierra Gradens School. A problem that we have is so many of the other dog owners that use the same areas do not follow the city's leash laws and let their dogs run at large. This creates a problem for us with our dog, which is always on leash, but also creates a safety factor for young children that play in this area.

I was wondering if there would be any way that we, as a neighborhood, could get the city to post the green belt area, stateing the ordinance, and stating the penalty for dogs running loose? I don't mean to be picky, but I feel for everyone's safety this ordinance should be followed by everyone.
Thanks for considering this matter.

Leash Laws

About dogs, click on the Roseville website to see the Park Department policy:
Dogs are allowed in designated open space areas as determined by the Director of Parks and Recreation. Within Wetland and Open Space Preserve, dogs are permitted on paved trails only. Roseville's municipal code requires all dogs to be led on a maximum 6-feet long leash at all times, and all pet waste is picked up and disposed of properly. Contact us at (916) 774-5748 or take a look at the Dog Zone Map to find out where these areas are located.

The city has recently installed a sign at the Oak Ridge entrance stating dogs are allowed, leashes are required.
I've requested more of those signs be installed at the Woodlake, Dana, Cottonwood, Blue Jay, Rocky Ridge, and Sierra Gardens School entrances. Apparently my request needs reinforced by more neighbors such as you before they will consider acting on it.
Sooo - - please call 774-5748. Together maybe we can make it happen.
Loose dogs endanger people, children, and wildlife. I know, I’ve been bitten by a loose poodle.
Animal Control officers are aided by photographs if you can manage a camera on your walk. Also, dog owners become quite paranoid when they think they are being photographed with their loose dog.

Leash Laws

You seem to be one of those rare dog owners who assumes all other dogs bit (endanger young children) and that is why all dogs need to be restrained at all times. So much for Men's best Friend. I let our dog off the leash and only put him back on the leash when we encounter another dog on a leash - assuming this dog is not friendly and not trained. I want our dog to interact and play with other dogs. Instead of asking the majority of dog owners being penalized you might just stay out of the Greenbelt and everybody is happy.
