Street Parking

Posted in: Garfield Park-South
As we're all very much aware, the streets in our neighborhood are very narrow and a lot of people park on both sides of the streets. I find it very hard to drive down narrow streets with cars, SUV's and trucks parked on both sides. Does anyone know who to contact about trying to get parking on only one side of the street? With all the snow and ice it's very dangerous to drive down streets and hoping not to side swipe anyone. Not only throughout the winter, but all year. I'd like it be considered to only allow parking down one side for those who do not use their garage. Thanks!

Narrow Streets

Katie,

I do not know the answer to your question but I share your concerns and would also suggest that getting emergency vehicles up and down these narrow streets could be problematic. If emergency vehicles can't negotiate the streets then this is an even worse problem.

This would be an interesting topic for the monthly neighborhood association meeting to get feedback from other residents. I agree with you though.

I agree with the both of you ladies, and think that parking on the street is really not necesarry,  It makes our neighborhood look bad.

I received this in an email from Jeff Small, our neighborhood liason.  He can be reached via email at:  JSMALL@indygov.org

Hi Erin,

The person you'll need to contact is Nathan Sheets.  His number is 327-8481.  He works for the Department of Public Works in their traffic engineering department.  I would encourage you to discuss it first with the entire neighborhood organization and pursue it that way as this type of request is more likely to be acted upon if it comes to them as the will of the neighborhood rather than wishes of a few neighbors. Let me know if you have trouble getting ahold of him or have additional questions.

Jeff
