The Board of Commissioners entered into discussion about changing the intersection at Houston Blvd and Hewitt Ave into a 3 way stop. There have been numerous complaints of speeding. There have been unlimited hours spent watching the area by Police. The Commissioners fell this might be our only solution to control traffic short of installing speed humps.

Am I the only one that thinks that this is only going to punish the citizens of our neighborhood that actually follow the rules?  How much a month are we paying for law enforcement?  How many tickets are they writing a month?  Are we getting our money’s worth from this service?  When was the last time you saw a police officer patrolling the neighborhood?  I can tell you none are watching that street or intersection, especially on a regular basis.  If this is the only intersection or street that there are complaints about why not have the police sit on that street? Or near that stop sign?  Everyone already knows where they are going to be sitting if they are in the neighborhood, don’t they?  The four way stop gets run all the same.  The bad thing there is that most of the people that run that stop sign are cutting through.  Back to more stop signs or speed humps.  Do you guys really think this is going to help or just divert traffic to the other streets in the neighborhood?  I guess if the problem is moved it is fixed huh?  NO!!!  We are still paying for the Lincolnshire Police to enforce the law and people are still running the stop signs and speeding causing the complaints.  I think that before the neighborhood does something they need to use the resources that we already have in place and paying for.  I know that stop signs and speed bumps can be removed after they have been installed but that is just a waste of money IMHO.  BTW, depending on the size of the speed humps, who is liable if a cavicle gets high centered on them and damages the vehicle?

I don't think a 4 way stop will do much at all.  The people that are already speeding are not going to worry about a stop sign.  There already breaking the law in the first place.  If there was someone there to enforce the law, that would be a different story.  It looks to me, that a lot of money could be made from speeders.  I mean it's still winter and I see people flying up to that 15mph turn all of the time.  I can only imagine when the weather is nice and warm there will be more traffic and speeders, not to mention people/kids/dogs etc. out walking.  In my opinion, the best thing for streets that can not be watched like they need to be are some sort of speed hump/bump or whatever that is long and low to the ground.  I've had them in my last 6th class city I lived in and they worked great.  Once people hit that thing going fast, you know they are going to remember to slow down the next time.  Downside........ they can be annoying and it seems someone could even loose control of their car if they hit it to fast.
