About Our Club

Harambee Ombudsman Project Inc.

HOPI's Mission Statement.

Harambee Ombudsman Project, Inc.

(HOPI) is a community-based organization that provides information and services to meet the needs of Harambee residents and the community at large. We offer a platform of working together through direct action, advocacy and community services. HOPI works with governmental, private and other community base agencies to achieve our goals and objectives. Harambee Ombudsman Project, Inc. is a strong network of grassroots volunteer residents. The goal of our collaborative effort is to initiate self-help activity and social change through a unified movement to ensure that political power and pride is developed and maintained in the Harambee community.

HARAMBEE IS.....................

In Swahilii, Harambee means ''pulling together.''
Harambee is the principle on which the Harambee Ombudsman Project Inc. was founded. HOPI's mission at its inception was to develop grassroots strategies that would address the economics needs of its neighborhoods.

Changes in government policies and programs took place, which negatively impacted inner-city family life, and industry moved from the area leaving more residents jobless. Many families within the Harambee boundaries found it increasingly difficult to provide healthy developmental experiences for their children. From the need, HOPI developed an array of programs and services and positioned itself to be the ''ombudsman'' (servant) to the Harambee community residents.

As times continued to change for the worse and the needs of those in Harambee neighborhood increased, HOPI recognized that one single agency could not solve all the problems and that solutions could only be derived from the community. It became the orgainization mission to help the community face its most pressing problems through grassroots advocacy, community collaboration, and direct service programs.

HOPI continues to search for better ways to do things on a local level in the very neighborhoods that are suffering from the unpredictable economy and rapidly deteriorating family systems. Today, HOPI's programs and advocacy efforts focus on services and activities that can empower Harambee residents to manage their own lives and solve their own lives and solve their own problem.
