Is there still a homeowners association?

There still is a Homeowner's Association, pretty much, in name only.  Through all these years, there has been little to no interest with the homeowner's in the community.  The last meeting we had in 2012 there were 4 concerned homeowners that showed-up.  At that time, we (the 4 of us) thought about sending out dues notices so we could get back on track and get the entrances and stuff maintained.   After several weeks of soul-searching, I did not spend a week of my time preparing and mailing those dues notices.  I know that I let down those other 3 homeowners that did show-up at the meeting, but after weeks of pondering about it, I felt it would do no good.  I've been doing this for over 10 years now.  Through those years I have had some help, but for the majority of that time I have carried the burden alone.  I continue to take care of the legal issues as they arise and pay the bills when they come due.  When what little we have left is gone, I guess the Association will be history unless people in this community come together.  There are a few homeonwers that really care and have tried through the years, but it takes a community not just a handful of homeowners.  I cannot do it all alone.  I still go to the post office every week, balance the checkbook, pay the bills etc.----but when the money we have left is gone------we're done.  If anyone wants to step up to the plate, that's fine with me.  If the community is not willing to come together there is nothing more I can do.

I thought you should know that some of the neighbors have started a Nextdoor.com site for Hamilton Highlands!  This might be a good way to recharge the HOA and increase community involvement once more neighbors join.

If you're unaware, Nextdoor is a free website for neighborhoods that is completely private and can't be joined by anyone who doesn't live in the neighborhood. The Hamilton Highlands site on Nextdoor has about 22 members right now and is growing every day!

It combines and organizes information about community events, recommendations for plumbers/babysitters/lawn care/etc, items for sale, crime reports, ideas about how to improve the neighborhood and more. You can also send out instant urgent alerts through text message or through the mobile app. Another great feature is that it gives you a map of all of the members in your neighborhood to help you remember names and faces!

It's free, and you can join by going to nextdoor.com!
