Neighborhood Description

Neighborhood Association founded in 1994; registered with city of Tucson, Citizen & Neighborhoods Services Dept., Incorporated, have final determination for 509 (a)(1) under the 501 (c)(3) section of the code. Resident homes represent approx. 2050 (estimated > 6000/ residents) within boundaries. Collaborative relationships with educational institutions within boundaries, including Pima Community College, East Campus, Santa Rita High School, Lyon's Elementary; co- hosting many projects: community art; Safe Halloween; Neighborhood Night Out Against Crime, several major Eagle Scout projects, etc. Neighborhood Association sponsor of highly successfulVolunteers In Prevention program, Tucsonan's Against Graffiti, Steering Committees for William Clements Recreation Center, Lincoln Park Riparian Restoration Project; members of various CPAC committees, etc. Actively participated in Level II contamination cleanup project with City of Tucson & AZ Dept. of Environmental Equality; city pilot of 1-on-1 Trash Collection; preservation of environmentally designated areas, etc.

Environmental Activities

Official ‘adopters’ of Lincoln Regional Park, Upper and Lower segments as well. Fostered placement of the Atturbury Wash on the 'Protected Wash Ordinance'. Envisioned, designed, and developed the nationally recognized Atturbury Bird & Animal Sanctuary, with the full support of Ward IV Council office, many city departments – especially Tucson Parks & Recreation Department, Corporate Sponsors, private sponsors and donors and many thousands of volunteer hours of labor. Site of the Youth Work Group, a highly successful program featuring paid and volunteer youth workers, many educational and free workshop offerings, development of ‘real world’ skills.

Seeking Help

Hot Projects under way are:(1) Development and training of residents to develop Safe Houses or safety sites for children or adults who need help or assistance. Need funding for signs, training.(2)Youth Employment & Enhancement Program - needs continued funding for summer, winter programs to continue. Could consider sponsoring for 1 season or entire year. Provides life training skills for employment as well as actual skills/ education.
