Grove Park Community Association

Two Thousand Five is Alive!

May 05, 2005

Grove Parkers, Last November, I was nominated for the the Board of Keep Atlanta Beautiful and I hit the ground running every since!
First, I energized my Boardship by donating four miniature fruit trees to Carter G Woodson Elementary School, on Hollowell Parkway. This was an Arbor Day celebration. The whole school turned out for this dedication and Councilman Ivory Young, Jr. gave a pep talk to the students. A representative from the Board of Education also attended the affair.
The students were given an education in tree planting, cultivation and upkeeping.
Next, being the representative for District Three, which includes, Grove Park, Center Hill, Penelope, Vine City, Hunter Hills, Knight Park, etc, I organized the Great American Cleanup.
We got the young folks of the surrounding streets involved in this task. Something that these teenagers have never encounted before.
My cleanup inspired district four, twelve and four to get involved.
I assisted Keep Atlanta Beautiful, Keep America beautiful and District Four in a revitalizing project of of a once unsightly street corner. The volunteers planted shrubery and did fine tune landscaping.
Right now, I am busy working on another project of curating an art show to be held at the Bureau of Cultural Affairs City Hall East Art Gallery. A city wide project that will bring all of Atlanta African American artists together to celebrate a HOMECOMING art exhibition. This event will take place June 3rd-July 17th, 2005. Opening night is June 3rd, 5:30 pm-8:30 pm. Admission is FREE.
