The Glen Haven Community

The Glen Haven Community is comprised of approximately 500+ single family homes and a dozen subdivisions. This is a multi-racial, South DeKalb neighborhood, situated along Covington Highway, with the main entrance at Mercer Road.

The Community was formed in 1988 as the Mercer Woods Community. During that time parents tackled the problems of a transitional neighborhood, drugs, vicious dogs, and serious criminal activity.

In the early 90's the Neighborhood Watch Program was expanded to include the Glen Haven area and the name changed from Mercer Woods to Glen Haven.

The most notable achievements since have been the formation of a Neighborhood Watch Program, installation of a traffic light and a community identification sign with a readerboard at Mercer Road , and the creation of a community newsletter. We have also hosted various yard sales, a "Labor Day Neighbor Day", Yard of the Month awards, and National Night Out.

Noteworthy history includes continuing cooperation with DeKalb Police and Fire Services, affiliation with the Straight Life Church of God Pentecostal and St. Stephens churches, installation of a MARTA bus shelter, participation in the Adopt-A-Highway Program, interaction with County Planning and Zoning officials, monthly litter pickup and beautification, and the creation of this web page.

About our association

Interested in Joining the Glen Haven Community Association>

The Glen Haven Community Association meets every second Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Straight Life Church of God Pentecostal Church, Inc., located at the intersection of Glen Haven Drive and Mercer Road. It only takes approximately an hour to an hour-and-a-half of your time per month and only costs $12 per year in membership dues. The dues are due annually beginning in January, and are paid on a calendar-year basis (January-December). New members who join afer January will have their dues pro-rated to retain the calendar-year consistency. Your check for your dues should be made out to GHCA and mailed to 4494 Denise Drive, Decatur, GA 30035-1405. Better yet, bring your dues with you to the next meeting.

Your membership entitles you to a subscription to the GHCA Newsletter "The Glen Haven Community News"; a membership listing/directory, upon request; and the opportunity to vote at all membership meetings, serve on committees, and hold office. Your membership also gives you a voice in helping protect the Glen Haven Community against inappropriate development, monitoring zoning ordinance violations, improves dissemination of information to you and the community at large, and stimulates involvement of our schools, residents and businesses in civic-minded activities.

The Saturday morning after each meeting, usually at 9:00 a.m., we gather at the main Community entrance (Mercer Road & Covington Highway) for cleanup in and around that area.
