GLNA Chair Appointed to City Commission

Sep 25, 2001

For those who haven't heard yet, I was appointed City Commissioner August 20th. I have taken the seat of Commissioner Ed Allick who had to step down. Mr. Allick has committed most of his adult life to Oregon City to make it a great place to live. Over time he has served on the School Board, as Mayor and as a Commissioner. He has left large shoes to fill, and if I can accomplish even a fraction of what he has during his service to this City, I will feel like I have done a good job.
As part of taking on this new role, I feel it is only right to step down as an officer of the GLNA. At September?’s steering committee meeting we talked about a new Chairperson. This will take some great effort from all of us to find a person that is willing to take this role and keep GLNA strong. One option is to have co-chairs to lighten the load (several NA are already doing this).
With this change coming up, I am worried about finding people that will step up to the plate to continue to keep GLNA one of the strongest neighborhood associations in Oregon City. I'm sure none of you want to see GLNA go down the drain after all of our hard work! I will still stay involved (i.e. attending meetings, posting signs, etc.), but I feel it will be a conflict of interest to continue as Chairman of GLNA with the current position that I have been appointed too.
Sincerely,
Derrick Beneville
GLNA Chairman
