I just heard on the afternoon news that the west side has shown "great support" for the casino development slotted as of now for the Delphi location. ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE. The news was also quick to showcase the backdoor letter writing campaign on "The WEST side is the BEST side" stationery, which was supported by proponents of the casino, but NOT by the majority of Columbus's west side residents. I attended a meeting of the Hilltop Commission, where the community came out en masse, and the vote was overwhelmingly heard and even recorded as a majority AGAINST the west side location. However, as usual, our elected officials will do what they want, and forget the constituency they represent, hence an appearance of "great support from the west side."
How is it possible that the entire state can now vote on a casino to be placed in MY NEIGHBORHOOD?? The downtown arena district didn't find it "family friendly" although that location was originally on the ballot. Now suddenly they don't want it, and want to force it on the west side, a quiet neighborhood full of families. The rest of Ohio doesn't care if it is downtown, on the west side or anyplace else, because it is in OUR backyard, NOT THEIRS. Franklin County itself did NOT show support for a casino, so why are WE being forced to accept this thing ? How can the entire state now dictate what WE have to have in OUR neighborhood??? This vote belongs to Franklin County, NOT the state.
I am totally disgusted. If I wanted a casino next door, I would have moved to Las Vegas, not the quiet west side of Columbus that we chose over 35 years ago.
